Øli is a horse I feel completely at one with. We’re a great match and have understood each other from the beginning. He came from Sweden as an 11-year-old, CIC2* horse and I acquired him in September 2015. He had, had a chequered past and came with a reputation for refusing
and having many poles in the showjumping.
In 2016, following an arduous pre-season of re-training and a schedule managed by Major Richard Waygood, after only four warm-up events we completed his first advanced class at Chatsworth CIC3* with only one down and a fabulous clear xc. This hard work paid off in 2017 when he came 4th at Camphire CCI3*. He’s continued to progress and eased around Badminton CCI 5* in 2018 making the track appear a lot easier than it was. His performance earned him a place on Australia's National Recognition Squad.
Sadly his 2018 was cut short after injuring himself significantly in the field due to an unwarned fireworks display that was let off only 100m from his field in August. We are praying he makes a full recovery, although at present his prognosis is guarded. Everyone connected to this horse, especially his trainers feel he was at a critical turning point in his career when it was cut short and he is far from producing the performance he will be capable of. We are praying he is able to come back and prove what kind of horse he was on the verge on turning in to.
